Hey Bookish Crew!

I love this time of year! The fall season is absolutely stunning and my absolutely favorite. The holidays are always a joy. I love having fires to read next to while wrapped up in cozy blankets. There is a usually some kind of hallmark-esk show or movie going when my husband or I aren’t playing a video game. I’m a sucker for them! And watching the leaves changing is just stunning to see happen.

The last stretch to get those reading challenges worked on! December 31st gets here quicker than I expect every year. I’m starting to see dates for my list of preorders I’ve been waiting to be available to order for next year and I am so stoked! I’ve got a few more for this year coming in. One is coming out in December by Brandon Sanderson and I can’t wait to get a hold of it! it is Book 5 in the Stormlight series and it is going to be EPIC! I have already started the re-reading process to get ready for Wind and Truth. But for any one who knows Sanderson, know just how thick those books are. A challenge I’m looking forward to getting done! And best part is since I’ve finished them, it is a refresher more than to get them done in time.

I hope all of your Novembers go wonderfully and that your holiday season starts out fantastic and stays that way throughout the rest of the year!

Chat with you guys next month!

Reading Theme: One Word Only in the Title

The year is winding down and the titles for books seemed to just get longer and longer the more I went looking for stories for this month. I decided, why look for a long, fancy requirement in the title when we can keep it simple! This month’s books only have a single word in their titles to rope us into reading them. Which is quite a feat in itself honestly! I hope you guy have fun with this reading theme. It was fun finding the stories!

Happy Reading Everyone!

My Reading List for November 2024:

Beartown By Fredrik Backman

People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever-encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semi-finals, and they actually have a shot at winning. All the hopes and dreams of this place now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys.

Being responsible for the hopes of an entire town is a heavy burden, and the semi-final match is the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Accusations are made and, like ripples on a pond, they travel through all of Beartown, leaving no resident unaffected.

Phantom By Greer Rivers

A dark, modern, romantic retelling of the musical classic, Phantom of the Opera. But this time, the man behind the mask won’t stop until she is his.

She is my muse, and I am her demon of music.

A year ago, I witnessed sweet Scarlett Day’s dark side. She’s been my obsession ever since. I was content with being her secret. Content with protecting her from afar… until an enemy from my past sets his sights on her. Our families have a deep history of hatred, and Scarlett is caught in the middle. Meanwhile, her mind plays tricks on her. When a panic attack goes horribly wrong, I emerge from the shadows to save her.

Now that she’s mine, I can’t let her go.

I’ve mastered the darkness. She tempts me with her light. But when my mask is gone, will she fear the monster underneath?

Bewilderment By Richard Powers

The astrobiologist Theo Byrne searches for life throughout the cosmos while single-handedly raising his unusual nine-year-old, Robin, following the death of his wife. Robin is a warm, kind boy who spends hours painting elaborate pictures of endangered animals. He’s also about to be expelled from third grade for smashing his friend in the face. As his son grows more troubled, Theo hopes to keep him off psychoactive drugs. He learns of an experimental neurofeedback treatment to bolster Robin’s emotional control, one that involves training the boy on the recorded patterns of his mother’s brain…

With its soaring descriptions of the natural world, its tantalizing vision of life beyond, and its account of a father and son’s ferocious love, Bewilderment marks Richard Powers’s most intimate and moving novel. At its heart lies the question: How can we tell our children the truth about this beautiful, imperiled planet?

Tethered By Elayna R. Gallea

What could be worse than an arranged marriage to a vampire prince?

When Luna is sold into marriage to the Prince of Darkness, she thinks she knows what to expect. Arranged marriages happen all the time, right? Wrong. No one could have prepared her for the reality of being married to the vampire prince.

Ever since the day he was Made, Sebastian has been living according to Queen Marguerite’s rules. After all, he’s only alive because of her. When she orders him to marry and Bind himself to Luna, a human hailing a neighboring kingdom, he has no choice. He agrees to the marriage but never expects to feel anything for Luna.

When their Binding Ceremony goes awry, and they are magically Tethered, everything is thrown into upheaval. Unable to leave each other’s presence, they must learn to live with each other. Or die.

Killingly By Katharine Beutner

Bertha Mellish, “the most peculiar, quiet, reserved girl” at Mount Holyoke College, is missing. One cold November morning the junior is spotted walking through the Massachusetts woods; then, she vanishes. As a search team dredges the pond where she might have drowned, Bertha’s panicked father and sister arrive at the campus desperate to find some clue as to her fate or state of mind. Bertha’s best friend, Agnes, a scholarly loner studying medicine, might know the truth, but she is being unhelpfully tight-lipped, inciting the suspicions of Bertha’s family, her classmates, and the private investigator hired by the Mellish family doctor. As secrets from Agnes and Bertha’s lives come to light, so do the competing agendas driving each person who is searching for Bertha.

Where did Bertha go? Who would want to hurt her? And could she still be alive?

Lets fall into this season with great books!
