Hey Bookish Peeps!
Happy May! I hope every one had a wonderful Star Wars day yesterday (May the Fourth be with you – belatedly). Also, beware of the Revenge of the Fifth, HA! I love the little nerdy jokes that can make a person chuckle or smile. And of course for those who participate in the Cinco de Mayo celebration – Have fun and be safe! I added something this month with the book sections below. I’ve included the Goodreads links with all 5 books picked. This way you all can see a bit more info or just what the communities is talking about for these stories. I know that I am constantly using Goodreads for most of my book knowledge and I love the fact I can hop in and see the chattering happening with others in the world. And if you find me in Goodreads, send me a friend request. You can see what other books I’ve reviewed and read!
I don’t know who has heard this crazy new that popped up at the end of April, but I have been fascinated by it over the last few days. Over in the EU there has been a crime bust / raid that happened last week in recovering some valuable pieces of stolen goods. They weren’t recovering what you would normally think of when the law gets involved enough to enact raids. But what happened you ask? A collaboration of people across the EU have been stealing rare and valuable antique books from European libraries for a while now and turning a hell of a profit from the ones they’ve been able to move probably. And yes, I said libraries you guys! They have been taking these beautiful books from freaking libraries! Ya’ll I feel like this just proves the importance of books. This criminal group has been stealing book- And I want to be clear I do not condone what this group has done – because they have realized there is value in books! I originally found the story from Lit Hub written by James Folta go check it out. There is a link out to the E.U. news report in the post too. No I am not supported or backed by this site. I like to use them to keep up all things literature in the world. Thankfully most of the raids that took place last week recovered a large number of these priceless pieces, but I don’t know how many books are still missing that this group managed to smuggle away.
Alright, that’s my fun news for kicking off May for you all! If you find more out about this blackmarket book crew or something you have seen that is interesting I would love to hear about it! Tell me below or send me a message!
Thanks you guys!
Reading Theme: Jobs in the Title
You don’t realize how many of your book titles have a royal position in the titles until you start doing these types of challenges. Just saying month 5 and there are a ton of “Prince of…” “Kingly…” “Dark Prince..” – you get the picture. Not hating, just a self-reflection moment of mine that I felt like sharing. side note: they are all super good books! This month I wanted to find jobs that a person might have (not royal related) since we are at the end of the school year and summer jobs are coming up – for some of us out there. Why not find some good reads about people working and hopefully surviving in their professions!
Happy Reading Everyone!
My Reading List for May 2024:
The Historian By Elizabeth Kostova

Breathtakingly suspenseful and beautifully written, The Historian is the story of a young woman plunged into a labyrinth where the secrets of her family’s past connect to an inconceivable evil: the dark fifteenth-century reign of Vlad the Impaler and a time-defying pact that may have kept his awful work alive through the ages. The search for the truth becomes an adventure of monumental proportions, taking us from monasteries and dusty libraries to the capitals of Eastern Europe—in a feat of storytelling so rich, so hypnotic, so exciting that it has enthralled readers around the world.
Sheriff Bear By Zoe Chant
Bear shifter and small-town sheriff Axl Tanner isn’t looking for trouble or temptation when he walks into Marge’s Diner, but he discovers two things at a glance. First: the smoking hot waitress with flaming red hair and curves in all the right places is also the woman on the wanted poster back in his office. Second: she’s his mate!
Framed for a crime she didn’t commit and running from dangerous enemies, curvy Tara Malloy is waiting tables in a truck-stop diner while trying to figure out how to clear her name and get her life back. The last thing she needs is to get involved with a drop-dead-sexy sheriff and his entire bear clan. But she’s always been a sucker for a man in uniform …
Axl knows he shouldn’t fall for the sexy fugitive; Tara knows better than to fall for a cop. But flaming desire pulls them together, and Axl can’t leave his mate to face her enemies alone. Can they overcome their differences and find the love they’ve been dreaming of … or will Tara’s deadly past claim both their lives?
The Librarian By Ciara Graves
Portland, Oregon. A very different state of unrest.
Nienna Havard. College student. Librarian. No one special. She’s keeping a secret. Her mother’s in an mental institution after vanishing for several years. She came back talking about elves, goblins, and wars.
To compound matters, she’s having a hard time breaking up with the guy who clearly isn’t right for her. Or maybe she’s not right for him. Either way, she can’t figure out how to tell him that they aren’t working out.
Alred Lightvale. Elf. Hot. Protector of the Historian. He traveled to the human world to find a girl who’s supposed to replace the recently murdered Historian. He’s got a tight timeline to get the next Historian in place.
One problem. She’s not exactly buying it. And she sure as heck isn’t interested in joining the cause.
The Bodyguard By Katherine Center
She’s got his back. He’s got her heart. They’ve got a secret. What could possibly go wrong?
Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindergarten teacher than somebody who could kill you with her bare hands. But the truth is, she’s an elite bodyguard and she’s just been hired to protect a superstar actor from his stalker.
Jack Stapleton’s a Hollywood heartthrob – captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, rising out of the waves in clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity.
When Jack’s mom gets sick, he comes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah – against her will and her better judgment – finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover.
Protecting Jack should be easy. But protecting her own heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done…
Lifeguard By James Patterson & Andrew Gross
The danger isn’t in the water.
Working as a lifeguard at a Florida resort, Ned Kelly meets a woman he is wild about, the woman of his dreams. It feels perfect in every way, except that she is used to caviar and Manolo Blahniks, and he is used to burgers and flip-flops. She is a guest at the luxurious hotel, he lives above a garage.
So when Ned’s cousin offers to cut him in on a rich deal he’s been commissioned to execute, Ned can’t turn him down. The plan is simple, just a fast break-and-enter. The risk is high, and the reward is even greater: $5 million. But on the night of the heist, something goes devastatingly wrong. Who will save the lifeguard?
Ned walks away from his job, his town, and the woman he’s fallen in love with. Runs away, actually, knowing that only velocity and secrecy can save his life. But who is pursuing him? The FBI? Whoever sabotaged the heist? Or is it all somehow tied into his new love, and his oldest enemies?
