Hey Bookish Peeps!

Well, last month was one of my worst reading turn outs I’ve had in a while. I hardly picked up a book and probably only finished one book a week for July. Talk about a HARD reading slump. Or perhaps this is a reading hangover? I was knocking out a bunch of books the previous month, so maybe? It has been a long time since I’ve been hit with a this lack of reading in a while. A portion of it was because I was busy, but for the most part I just never had a “I need to read” itch. I’m sure you guys have also run across this feeling before too. I have also dipped my toes into listening to Brandon Sanderson’s podcast “Intentionally Blank”…. So, all my time I was using towards audiobooks are absolutely gone. Because of course I can’t just start where they are currently. I have to start over and work my way through all of the episodes #CompletionistProblems. Did you know (as of this writing) they have 163 episodes?!? Goodness Gracious, what have I done?!

I have a few book series that I am really really excited about reading this month, which I’m hoping will help cure this reading slump. Laura Thalassa’s Four Horseman series for one and the rest of Melissa Roehrich’s Lady of Darkness series. Let’s go ladies! I need some great fantasy, romance, enemy-to-lover, paranormal stories to ease me back in here. Each of your first books were amazing, so I know you can deliver exactly what I need!

I hope your July went well and that your August goes wonderfully! Stay cool out there if you’re fighting the heat like we are in Georgia (well the heat and these crazy storms we’ve been getting non-stop)! And don’t forget to always add books to your TBR Shelves, because we don’t ever want to run out of things to potentially read if the power goes out and there isn’t anything to do. You know, gotta prep ahead of time so you’re ready. I give you permission to use that excuse to buy as many books as you want to!

Chat with you guys next month!

Reading Theme: Food in the Title

This is what happens when you pick a title while you are hungry! I decided to follow my tummy and find some books out there that have food in the titles, because why not! So, check your shelves for those hiding delicious treasures. It’s the month to sink you teeth into these stories. You’ll probably see that the last one is most definitely not a “food” in title book – if anything the exact opposite. BUT I’ve recently started this series and I am obsessed with it! So, I’m bending the rules a little to include it. Enjoy everyone! The books are served!

Happy Reading Everyone!

My Reading List for August 2024:

Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson

“Who Moved My Cheese?” is a simple parable that reveals profound truths. It is an amusing and enlightening story of four characters who live in a “Maze” and look for “Cheese” to nourish them and make them happy.

Two are mice named Sniff and Scurry. And two are “Littlepeople” — beings the size of mice who look and act a lot like people. Their names are Hem and Haw.

“Cheese” is a metaphor for what you want to have in life — whether it’s a good job, a loving relationship, money, a possession, health, or spiritual peace of mind.

And the “Maze” is where you look for what you want — the organisation you work in or the family or community you live in.

In the story, the characters are faced with unexpected change. Eventually, one of them deals with it successfully, and writes what he has learned from his experience on the Maze walls.

When you come to see “The Handwriting on the Wall,” you can discover for yourself how to deal with change, so that you can enjoy less stress and more success (however you define it) in your work and in your life.

Written for all ages, the story takes less than an hour to read, but its unique insights can last for a lifetime.

Famine By Laura Thalassa

They came to earth―Pestilence, War, Famine, Death―four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all. Ana da Silva always assumed she’d die young, but she never expected it to be at the hands of the haunting immortal who spared her life years ago. Famine. But if the horseman remembers her, he must not care, for when she comes face to face with him for the second time in her life, she’s stabbed and left for dead. Only, she doesn’t quite die. If there’s one thing Famine is good at, it’s cruelty. He can’t forget the pain humanity has brought him, and he’s ready to bring it back to them tenfold. But when Ana, a ghost from his past, corners him for what he did to her, she and her empty threats captivate him, and he decides to keep her around. In spite of themselves, Ana and Famine are drawn to each other. But at the end of the day, the two are enemies. Nothing changes that. Not one kind act, not two. And definitely not a few steamy nights. But enemies or reluctant lovers, if they don’t stop themselves soon, heaven will.
